Boarding at Poughkeepsie Animal Wellness

Boarding at a veterinary practice

Boarding at Poughkeepsie Animal Wellness means your pet is never far from medical care. Our boarding guests receive daily health checks from our veterinary team, and any health concerns are addressed immediately — without the delay of transporting your pet to a separate facility.

Accommodations

We maintain separate boarding areas for dogs and cats to minimize stress. All accommodations are climate-controlled, cleaned and disinfected daily, and designed for your pet's comfort.

  • Separate dog and cat boarding wings
  • Individual kennels and runs sized appropriately for your pet
  • Comfortable bedding (or bring your pet's own)
  • Climate-controlled environment year-round
  • Daily cleaning and disinfection
  • Quiet hours for rest

Daily care and attention

Our boarding guests are not just housed — they are cared for. Every pet receives multiple daily interactions with our staff, outdoor exercise opportunities, and the attention they need to feel comfortable.

We administer medications at no additional charge. Pets with complex medical needs — diabetes, seizure disorders, post-surgical recovery — are welcome.

  • Daily veterinary health checks
  • Multiple daily feedings (your pet's regular food or ours)
  • Medication administration at no additional charge
  • Outdoor exercise and socialization
  • Individual attention and playtime
  • Daily updates available on request

Boarding requirements

To protect all of our boarding guests, we require current vaccinations for all pets. Please bring enough food for your pet's stay, plus a small extra supply.

  • Dogs: Current rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines required
  • Cats: Current rabies and FVRCP vaccines required
  • Flea and tick prevention must be current
  • Please bring your pet's regular food
  • Bring any medications with clear dosing instructions
  • Bring a comfort item from home (optional but encouraged)

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Absolutely. We administer medications at no additional charge. Please bring all medications in their original containers with clear dosing instructions.

  • This is the advantage of boarding at a veterinary practice. If your pet shows any signs of illness, our veterinary team can evaluate and treat them immediately. We will contact you before initiating any treatment beyond basic first aid.

  • Yes, and we encourage it. Familiar food prevents digestive upset from a diet change, and a familiar-smelling blanket or toy can significantly reduce boarding stress.
